BACKGROUND & HISTORY
Iris was born into one of the oldest siren families in Greece, inheriting her mother’s powers. Her father never knew of her powers, her mother keeping them well hidden once they started blossoming. She would sneak her out while Iris’ father was on business trips and take her for night swims, teaching her ancient songs passed along the family line. Unfortunately, her mother and father were both killed when she was only 6, in a freak car accident. Iris was promptly packed up and shipped off to America to live with her father’s family, a rather emotionally/verbally abusive lot. Her learning was cut off and she was taught to be a ‘proper’ young lady, all thoughts of rebellion cut off as soon as she arrived. It was here she picked up the nickname ‘Red’, thanks to her rather striking red hair and cousins who took any chance to alienate her. The nickname stuck and she often forgets to introduce herself as Iris instead of Red. At 23, she moved to Siren Cove, cutting ties with the rather overbearing family that raised her. Something about the name of the town called to her…
PERSONALITY
Iris is profoundly naive and ‘innocent’ thanks to her father’s family. She’s very upbeat and an eternal optimist, but can be delicate about her feelings and tends to cry easily. Ok, more like, at the drop of a hat. She’s overly eager to please, a side effect of being alienated by her cousins for the majority of her life. An unfortunate side effect of her lack of training is her ability to purposefully compel people being nearly non-existent, and her ability to accidentally compel them being incredibly overactive. She has vague memories of changing into a mer-like form to swim with her mother as a child, but brushes them off as old dreams or fantasies. She keeps her hair incredibly long and has two horrible habits: knotting her hair and chewing her nails, both of which she does when she’s nervous or thinking.
OPINION OF THE RIVALRY
Iris knows nothing about the rivalry, having just moved to town. She also knows nothing about sirens or witches and just figures people are naturally drawn to her, even if she hates the attention.
LIFESTYLE
Just having moved to town, she has no job. She has a tiny apartment filled with bright colours and happy things. She’s got a tiny bit of money saved up from summer jobs but will have to get a job soon after moving to town if she doesn’t want to live on the streets. Iris enjoys singing and dancing, of course, but is also a huge bibliophile and has a constantly growing pile of books laying around her house and in her purse. Books and coffee are her big addictions and she has no qualms about spending good money on either. If you visit her, be prepared to have a ridiculous selection of gourmet coffees to choose from.
HUMAN, WITCH, OR SIREN: Iris is a siren, but knows nothing about her powers. She has vague memories of them but brushes them off as childhood fantasies. She has a spectacular singing voice and greatly enjoys singing to herself but gets uncomfortable when it inadvertently draws a crowd. Iris cannot currently access her proper siren form. Her full siren form is rather monstrous, even compared to most sirens.
HEADCANONS:
-Iris is an anxious chef. Whenever she starts getting stressed, she cooks up a storm and ends up handing the extra food out to friends and people who need it.
-She can speak Greek fluently, but needs to work to keep up her reading skills.
-She often sings/hums to herself without thinking, causing unintended chaos thanks to her siren-ness
-She's incredibly shy when she first meets people, but quickly warms up
-She looks similar to this in her siren form. Just red and with shorter hair (down to her butt... area...) Her hair gets tangled up in her arms a LOT when she comes on land like that.
PLOTLINES:
Adjusting - Having just moved to town, Iris is still getting used to being free of her aunt and uncle's strict guidelines for what it means to be a lady. She's trying to find a place where she belongs and people she can trust.
Siren Song - Iris is still learning her way around her siren powers. She's not entirely comfortable with them and currently can't use her influencing powers without explicit consent of the person she's using them on.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Kennedy Kensington - Her first female friend. Maybe ever. They're neighbours in their apartment building and Iris thinks Kennedy is pretty damn amazing. Totes married.
Bach Jones - The unfortunate victim of her siren powers. She wants to be friends with him, but isn't sure what to make of his... oddness. He scares her a bit when he hints at his feelings for her.
Spencer Waters - Iris' book friend. She adores books, he adores books, she adores him. It doesn't take much for her to love someone's company, and books are a sure draw for her. She wants to get to know him better and will likely visit him at the library a lot
Eli Dixon - Her bffffff. She finds him attractive, but she mostly just loves him to pieces and thinks he's a good pillow for napping on. She'd do literally anything for him.
Jason Wright - Iris' friend...boy... thing. They haven't settled into anything official yet, but there's an undeniable connection between them, even without the intense attraction they seem to have for each other. They're quickly discovering just how intense that attraction is, as he helps her tap into the more seductive side of her powers. She wants nothing more than to keep him happy and safe.
Lara Quinn - A mother figure to Iris, she's teaching her the ins and outs of Siren-ness. Iris would do anything she asks her to and would protect her with everything she can. She absolutely adores her.
